Innovative and interesting digital music service 6Music‘s future remains uncertain. The service may be completely dismantled or (weakly) affixed to existing services as part of cost-cutting efforts at the over-budget BBC. 6Music is not broadcast, it’s digital only and available online. While intended for a UK audience, luckily (for now) you can listen via their website with just about any Internet connection.
There are grassroots efforts to save 6Music including this facebook group. The BBC is also soliciting feedback via this survey. You can read more about one listener’s opinions of the proposed closure at this blog.
It would be a real shame for 6Music to disappear or become so crippled as to be a hollow shell of its current or former glory. If you live in the UK, I encourage you to raise your voice. You can start by using the survey link above.
I, for one, will miss 6Music should it vaporize. When I’m not listening to Deeper into Music, there’s a good chance I have 6Music on.
